IPL 2024 Auction: SRH surprised after bagging Travis Head for INR 6.8 Cr

IPL Auction 2024: SRH has had poor three seasons, where they have failed to make play offs.

The IPL 2024 Auction went as planned for some teams, and one of them was Sunrisers Hyderabad, who bagged Australia’s World Cup hero Travis Head, for a massive INR 6.8 cr. For a team that ended last in the points table in IPL 2023, it made sense to shell out a whopping amount for Head, who will only strengthen their top order.

A chuffed Muttiah Muralitharan, who is SRH’s strategic coach, said, “Very happy. Needed an opening batter who was a left-hander (talking about Travis Head). We never thought we’d get him for that price, thought he’d go very high. Thought we would have a tough fight against so many teams. We knew CSK didn’t need a frontline player as Conway is there.”

But for SRH, who had a purse of INR 34 crore, the madness did not stop there. The team created history by then bagging the Aussie captain Pat Cummins for 20.5 cr, making him the most expensive player in IPL history, surpassing Sam Curran of England.
