Early IPL 2024 to force Ranji Trophy matches out of Eden Gardens: Report

The IPL 2024 is set for a March start, due to the General Elections slated to take place in the middle of the year.

The IPL 2024 is all set to begin in March 2024, but that might cause a few problems for the stadiums hosting those matches. As per a report in The Telegraph, all the venues hosting IPL matches, including Eden Gardens, won’t be able to host any Ranji Trophy or any other local matches, from February.

As per the BCCI directives, the IPL venues need to be ready for the use of the franchises, from the first week on March, which is slated to be held early, due to the upcoming general election in 2024.

“Usually, once the domestic season is over, the centres concerned get around three weeks or so to freshen up and be prepared for the IPL. This time, because of the parliamentary elections, the IPL is set to begin a little bit earlier.

“So, the BCCI, very recently, has instructed all the IPL centres to not host any Ranji, club or any other local matches from February onwards.

“The ground has to be kept ready so that the franchises can begin with their preparations from the first week of March itself,” an official of one of the state associations told The Telegraph.

Only One Home Match for Bengal in Ranji Trophy 2024

Going by this, Team Bengal will only be able to play one Ranji match at home stadium — on January 19 against Chhattisgarh. “In that case, Bengal will have to play their home matches at either the BCA (Bengal Cricket Academy) ground in Kalyani or the Jadavpur University Salt Lake campus ground,” Eden curator Sujan Mukherjee said.
