‘Could spend 12-14 crore for him’, Aakash Chopra on CSK’s potential pick in IPL 2024 auction

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has opined that MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would be eyeing an overseas fast bowler in IPL 2024 Auction.

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has opined that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) would not mind spending 12-14 crore to acquire South Africa pacer Gerald Coetzee in the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai on Tuesday.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra talked about CSK’s potential picks in the auction. The cricket commentator believes that MS Dhoni-led side will be looking to target an overseas fast bowing option and Proteas’ Coetzee could be one of their targets.

“The first name that comes to my mind will come in their mind as well because he is a part of the Johannesburg Super Kings. The name is Gerald Coetzee. If they wish to have him, they can even spend 10, 12, 14 crore rupees on him”, Chopra said.

Chopra heaped praise on Coetzee and called him an “out-and-out fast bowler”, who can bowl in any situation.

“An out-and-out fast bowler who is quick in the air and can bowl at the death and the start, Gerald Coetzee is a wicket-taker. Although this captain [MS Dhoni] prefers multi-dimensional players, you can make that exception with a fast bowler”, the 46-year-old added.

Notably, CSK released three overseas pacers – South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius, Sisanda Magala and New Zealand’s Kyle Jamieson – ahead of the IPL 2024 auction.

The defending champions have ₹31.4 crore purse remaining and have a maximum of 6 slots to fill, including three overseas.
