Shreyas Iyer slams stunning fifty in IND vs SA 1st ODI to project fine form, begins preparation for crucial IND vs SA Test series

India Cricket Team star batter Shreyas Iyer continued his fine form in ODIs. The dependable batter slammed a fine fifty to help India chase down 117 runs in the IND vs SA 1st ODI. However, now Iyer will turn his attention to red-ball cricket. With World Test Championship (WTC) points up for grabs, Iyer will begin his preparation for Tests and will miss the 2nd and 3rd ODIs.

Ahead of the 1st ODI, the India Cricket Team board announced that Iyer will only feature in the first game of the series. He won’t play any part for the second or third game but will prepare for the 2 Test matches. Shreyas Iyer will also participate the inter-squad match as a build up for the 2 crucial Test matches.

Following the ODI World Cup debacle, it was India’s first ODI match. Shreyas Iyer continued his fine form from the World Cup and slammed a fine fifty. Tasked to chase a mere target of 117 runs, Iyer had to reach the crease quite early after Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismissal.

Iyer went on to build a strong partnership with debutant Sai Sudharsan to help India cruise to a dominant win. Iyer slammed his fifty in style by hitting a massive sixer. He his well notched fifty consisted of 6 fours and a solitary sixer. Iyer however, could hit the winning shot as he was dismissed the very next ball after his fifty in a big to go for a maximum.

As things stand, India’s focus is on the 2 Test matches. After Pakistan’s 360 run thumping by Australia, India now tops the WTC Standings. With Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah returning, India will be desperate for wins against the Proteas.
