IPL 2024 Auction: Which cricketers can Sunrisers Hyderabad target in auction?

Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, we take a look at the areas that SRH can strengthen and the cricketers they will likely target ahead in the gala event

Sunrisers Hyderabad will have their task cut out at the IPL 2024 Auction. SRH have retained 18 out of 25 players from last year. However, the release of leg spinner Adil Rashid means SRH is a little short in the specialist spinners’ category. Hence, they will look to rope in a top-class overseas spinner in the IPL 2024 Auction on Tuesday. To add to their woes, their pace options at the moment are limited, suggesting that they could also go for a reputed medium-fast bowler as well.

The Sunrisers Hyderabad are one of the teams that will be looking to put on a spirited display in IPL 2024 after a disappointing outing in the previous edition. The Orange army finished at the bottom of the table, winning only four out of the 14 matches of the group stage.

Apart from the list, Sunrisers Hyderabad roped in all-rounder Shahbaz Ahmed in a trade deal with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL 2024 Auction Strategy

Despite the fact that they finished at the bottom of the table, SRH has retained 18 out of the 25 players from last season. However, what makes them stand out is their core Indian team.

They have the likes of Rahul Tripathi, Washington Sundar, Mayank Agarwal, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umran Malik among others while some of their core overseas players in Aiden Markram, Glenn Phillips, Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen have been doing well consistently in the international stage.

SRH are likely target overseas spinners, some reinforcements in their pace attack and some prominent batters in the auction.

Players SRH could target in auction

The top priority for SRH is to find a quality spinner to fill the gap left by Rashid Khan’s departure and more recently with the release of Adil Rashid and Akeal Hosein. Wanidu Hasaranga and Mohammad Nabi are two overseas spinners SRH could go for. Among Indian options, the SRH can target the likes of Murugan Ashwin or Shreyas Gopal.

Although SRH have Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, and Umran Malik in their pace battery, they would like to add a few more considering both Bhuvi and Natarajan are not getting any younger, while Umran has leaked in a lot of runs in the last edition. The SRH have the second most amount in their purse among IPL team so it would be no surprise if they opt for some star players such as Mitchell Starc or Gerald Coetzee. Alternatively, Shardul Thakur and Harshal Patel can be the Indian options.

In the batting zone, Sunrisers made a big investment in Harry Brook for a whopping Rs 13.25 crore, which is nine times the player’s base salary. But the Englishman failed to deliver. He managed to score just 190 runs in his 11 matches. After releasing Brooks, SRH might move for someone like Travis Head or Daryl Mitchell. Among Indian options, Shahrukh Khan is likely to be on the radar of SRH.
