India’s pacer, Arshdeep Singh, achieved a significant milestone by securing his first-ever five-wicket haul, unleashing havoc on South Africa in the IND vs SA 1st ODI at Johannesburg. Starting with two consecutive dismissals in his opening over, Arshdeep continued his dominance by claiming two more wickets before making Phehlukwayo his fifth victim. He concluded his 10-over spell with impressive figures of 37/5.

Notably, the left-arm pacer etched his name in history as the first Indian pacer to secure an ODI five-wicket haul against South Africa, a feat accomplished at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. At 24 years old, Arshdeep also joined the ranks of Sunil Joshi, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravindra Jadeja as the fourth Indian bowler to achieve an ODI fifer against South Africa.

Arshdeep Singh made a significant impact at the beginning by taking three early including key players Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi, contributing to South Africa’s loss of four wickets within the initial 10 overs. The situation took a turn for the worse for the hosts when Avesh Khan swiftly secured two consecutive wickets, dismissing Aiden Markram and Wiaan Mulder with the first two balls. This rapid sequence resulted in South Africa losing their top six batsmen in just over 10 overs.

Maintaining his effectiveness, Arshdeep later dismissed Heinrich Klaasen before claiming Phelukwayo as his fifth victim, while Avesh added to the Proteas’ troubles by capturing the wickets of David Miller and Keshav Maharaj. Their stellar performance disrupted the Proteas’ batting order, resulting in South Africa registering their lowest ODI score at home.

While Arshdeep celebrated his maiden 5-wicket haul, Avesh Khan contributed with four crucial wickets. Phelukwayo, with a score of 33, emerged as the top-scorer for South Africa, but the rest of the lineup faltered against the fired-up Indian pace attack. South Africa, having won the toss, chose to bat first in the contest.
