South African cricket team will wear a pink jersey instead of their customary green in the IND vs SA 1st ODI in Johannesburg on Sunday, December 17. This is an yearly tradition where the Proteas spread breast cancer awareness through Pink Day ODI.
Notably, the costs of the matches will be used to support initiatives related to breast cancer. The Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Saturday revealed that the match has been sold out and encouraged the fans to wear pink during the match to support the initiative.
“We are delighted to once again raise awareness on breast cancer with cricket fans,” Cricket South Africa’s CEO Pholetsi Moseki said.
“To help in the fight against breast cancer, awareness alone is not enough. We encourage people to be proactive and get screened. Breast cancer is a leading cause of cancer among women in South Africa, but it can affect men as well. Early detection can lead to effective treatment and a positive outcome,” he added.
India and South Africa will play 3 ODIs followed by a 2-match Test series, starting on December 17.
