Star India Cricket Team player KL Rahul has admitted that he is willing to take any role in Test cricket. The ODI captain for the Men in Blue for the IND vs SA ODI series has said that he will play any role in Test series. Ready to don any role as deemed fit by captain and the board, KL Rahul is now the prime candidate as India’s wicketkeeper till Rishabh Pant makes a comeback to cricket.
“I will be doing Wicket-keeping & batting in middle order in this ODI series – happy to take any role in the Test series which captain & management wants (talking about keeping role) – of course, even in T20, I want to play for my country,” said KL Rahul at the pre match Press Conference.
Ahead of the IND vs SA 1st ODI, KL Rahul spoke at the press conference where he shared his desire to play as wicketkeeper-batter across all three formats of the game.
KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant
The Indian Team is currently missing a good wicketkeeper in Test. In both KL and Pant’s absence it was Ishan Kishan who kept wickets while KS Bharat was kept as a backup. But now it is KL Rahul who is ready to establish himself as the prominent keeper and batsman for India.
With Rishabh Pant recovering from his injury there is still time before the Delhi Capitals skipper takes the field. While DC is confident that Pant will play in IPL 2024, where Pant can keep remains a major doubt. Till Pant makes a complete recovery and return to the Indian Team, it will be KL Rahul who will stand behind the wickets.
IND vs SA Test Series – Crucial for India
The utmost priority for the Indian Cricket Team is the shortest format of the game. With 2024 T20 World Cup fast approaching, the team is ready to go full throttle at the tournament. While the ODIs right now are just a mere formality, the same cannot be said for Test.
Red ball cricket continues to be important with World Test Championship (WTC) points up for grabs. India will likely to field a strong side against the Proteas in Test which will see the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
