‘Was waiting for…’ Deepti Sharma reveals after match-winning performance in IND vs ENG Test

Deepti claimed her maiden 5-wicket haul in the one-off IND vs ENG Women Test.

Deepti Sharma starred with both bat and ball in the Indian women’s cricket record 347-run win over England. The all-rounder scored 87 runs and claimed 9 wickets in the IND vs ENG Women’s Test and was rightfully adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’. After her match-winning performance, Deepti stated that she had been waiting for this day for a long time.

Despite making her international debut in 2014, the all-rounder has played just 3 Test matches. With the one-off IND vs ENG Test being her first in India.

Feeling very good; I was waiting for this day. Feeling very proud as we executed our plans. Happy with the results. I tried to keep calm. We focused on building partnerships and were pleased we could execute them. I was getting a lot of help from the wicket, so I tried to bowl in the right areas. Harmanpreet was advising me to bowl in the right areas. I will try to keep doing the same things going forward,” Deepti Sharma said in the post-match interview.

Coach Amul Mazumdar praises Deepti Sharma

Speaking on Deepti Sharma and her all-rounder performance in the post-match presentation, head coach Amol Mazumdar said that he calls the all-rounder ‘Ben Stokes’. Mazumbar praised the whole group and added pressure on the importance of having a player like Deepti in their lineup.

“You’re talking about Stokesy (referring to Deepti). I jokingly call her Ben Stokes in the team. The confidence she’s carrying and the confidence she’s gained. She’s an important cog in the wheel. We have back to back Tests – never happened before. We’re playing Australia in four days time“, Amol Mazumdar said about Deepti Sharma.
