Pakistan, in the last few years, has struggled big time with their batting, especially in Tests. Mostly, it has been Babar Azam, who has come to their rescue in crunch situations. Yet, former Australia batsman Simon Katich feels that opener Abdullah Shafique, who debuted in 2021, will be a better player than Babar.
On the second day of the Australia vs Pakistan Perth Test, Katich, during commentary, said that Shafique’s aggression is what impresses him the most. “He is a good young player and has had a good start to his Test career. What I like about him the most is his aggression against the spinners,” said Katich during commentary.
“We saw him in Pakistan last year against Australia. He went hard against Nathan Lyon and hit him straight back over his head today. I like his batting style. For me, he is going to be a better player than Babar Azam,” he added.
For the record in the 15 Tests so far, Shafique has scored 1262 runs at an average of 50.48. That also included four tons and as many fifties.
