Records tumbled at DY Patil Stadium on Day 1 of the IND W vs ENG W one-off Test in Navi Mumbai on Thursday. Indian women’s team entered the record books as they became only the second team to record 400-plus runs in a day in a women’s Test innings.

The Harmanpreet-Kaur led side is only the second team in 88 years to post 400+ total on Day 1 of a Test innings in women’s cricket.

England still holds the record for scoring most runs in a day in women’s Test, posting 431/4 on the opening day vs New Zealand in 1935.

After opting to bat, Indian batters made the merry on a lifeless deck with both top and middle-order making notable contributions. Debutants Shubha Satheesh (69), Jemimah Rodrigues (68), Yastika Bhatia (66) and Deepti Sharma (60 not out) struck half-centuries as India deflated the England bowlers.

With a stunning batting display on Day 1, India surpassed its previous highest total at home. The team went past the earlier record of 400/9 dec. against South Africa in 2014.
