A debut to remember! Jemimah Rodrigues shows pedigree in IND vs ENG Women Test

Despite making her international debut in 2018 and playing over 100 matches for the India women's cricket team, this was Jemimah Rodrigues debut Test.

Jemimah Rodrigues has been a constant for the India women’s cricket team in the shortest formats of the game (T20I and ODI). However, the technically gifted batter hadn’t represented Team India in the longer format (Tests) despite playing international cricket for the last five years. Jemimah finally got her chance in the one-off IND vs ENG Women Test and proved her pedigree as a potential Test great. And to announce herself to Test cricket, she hit 68 on debut at home.

The batter joined Satheesh Shubha in the middle after Shafali Varma was dismissed in the 9th over. The duo stitched a sumptuous 115-run stand, taking the game on and ensuring they dominated Heather Knight and Co.

Shubha decided to play the role of aggressor, scoring 69 of 76 balls, while Jemimah Rodrigues decided to anchor the innings. The right-hander did not get stuck but ensured that a collapse didn’t occur.

The batter seemed to be going well despite Shubha departing but an incredible inducker from Lauren Bell saw her stumps rattled. Jemimah Rodrigues ended her debut Test innings (68 of 99 balls) with impressed everyone with her perfect technique and dogged temperament.

Test debut at last for Jemimah Rodrigues

Since Jemimah made her debut in 2018, the India women’s cricket team has played two Test matches. Despite being in the squad for both Tests, the batter could not find a place in the playing XI. Now, two years after India’s last Test, she has been awarded her Test cap.
