Odisha Masters: Ashwini Ponnappa, Tanisha Crasto win easy to reach Round of 16

Ponnappa and Crasto exuded confidence in the court on Wednesday coming on the back of a Guwahati Masters title

The Indian Women had a good day in the Odisha Masters tournament on Wednesday. Doubles pair Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto along with singles players Unnati Hooda, and Kiran George moved to the next round at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Cuttack.

Ponnappa and Crasto exuded confidence in the court on Wednesday. The duo recently won their 2nd Super 100 title at the Guwahati Masters. With the victory, They also attained a career-high 24th position in BWF World Rankings. UAE’s Aleena Qathun and Nayonika Rajesh proved no match for the Indian duo as they won the match by a comfortable 21-7, 21-14 scoreline to reach Round of 16.

After Tanisha and Ashwini won the first set comfortably, the UAE pair gave some sort of a fightback in the second set, levelling the score at 8-8. However, the Indians gained back their composure to lead 17-11, pushing the game away from Aleena and Nayonika. The Indian duo won the match comfortably since then.

The dominance and consistency being shown by shuttlers Tanisha and Ashwini in the last few weeks suggest that the duo might also make the most out of the Odisha Masters too.
