Ashwin calls LSG’s trade with MI a ‘pickpocket’ deal

Ravichandran Ashwin elaborated on MI's steal deal with LSG involving West Indies' Romario Shepherd ahead of IPL 2024 auction

Ahead of IPL 2024 auction, India’s Ravichandran Ashwin highlighted a trade between MI and LSG which he termed was a ‘burglary’. West Indies’ Romario Shepherd was traded to Mumbai Indians from Lucknow Super Giants for just Rs 50 lakhs. Citing Shepherd’s two IPL stints and his performance in the WI vs ENG T20I game, Ash explained why it was a steal deal for MI.

Ashwin calls out MI’s heist

In a video uploaded on his YouTube Channel, the Indian spinner opined how MI planned a heist involving LSG. He felt that Romario Shehperd, who was bought for Rs 50 lakhs, was picked on the right side of his career. Ashwin added that LSG had seen Shepherd play for two seasons and hence had decided to let him go.

“There is no surprise if you call Mumbai Indians ‘pista ki dol’. They have pulled off a heist against LSG. Hardik Pandya’s heist was a planned one – like Money Heist. But Romario Shepherd is an act of pickpocket. Because I feel they have picked a player on the right side of the career for Rs 50 lakhs. LSG released him as they felt they couldn’t do anything with him. MI just casually purchased him for Rs 50 lakhs”, Ashwin said in a video.

Further, Ashwin noted that MI always targeted tall batters who have massive reach. He explained that Shepherd could do wonders at the Wankhede, given his power and the ground’s size.
