India name 50-member probable squad for AFC Asian Cup sans Anwar Ali

Facing multiple injuries, India are grappling against time as they will take on Australia in the AFC Asian Cup on January 13

With the AFC Asian Cup all set to begin from January 13, India has unveiled the probable names who are likely to be a part of the squad. The Blue Tigers, who have been boggled by multiple injury concerns in the past few months, put out a probable list comprising of the likes of Sunil Chhetri, Sandesh Jhingan, Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and more. Head coach Igor Stimac unveiled the list for the national men’s team on Tuesday.

An injury to Sahal Abdul Samad sparked concerns for Chhetri and co who are already dealing with the injuries of defender Anwar Ali, midfield Jeakson Singh and forward Ashique Kuruniyan.

However, Abdul Samad’s name has been featured in the list, indicating at his return to action by the time the tournament commences. Barring Kuruniyan and Anwar Ali, the other injured members have found themselves on the probable list.

The Blue Tigers have been drawn in Group B, alongside Australia (January 13), Uzbekistan (January 18), and Syria (January 23). The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed finishers (out of six) will make their way into the Round of 16.
