Following his selection in the IND vs SA ODI squad, Team India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin praised Sai Sudharsan. Sai Sudharshan, who is about to make his international debut, has also been selected in the India A squad for the shadow tour of South Africa. He has performed admirably in domestic cricket as well as the Indian Premier League earning his place.
Ashwin posted on X: “Wow Sai Sudarshan wow! Genuinely happy for a kid who has been chasing excellence and not left any stone unturned. Totally thrilled. Well done”
The 22-year-old left-handed opening batter’s career has taken to a new direction after making it to the IND vs SA ODI squad. Sai Sudharshan, representing Tamil Nadu, scored 125 runs in the recent Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Goa. Sudarshan also piqued the interest of the selectors with his consistently good performance for India A at the Asia Cup for Emerging Nations in Sri Lanka.
He has more than made up for missing the last year of under-19 cricket due to the epidemic in 2020 in the previous two years. Sai has competed in the Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, and Irani Cup. He was also a member of India A’s squad for the ACC Emerging Cup in Sri Lanka, where he scored a century against Pakistan A.
Sai Sudharsan has appeared in 22 List-A games, scoring 1236 runs with 6 hundreds and 4 fifties. He has a 65.05 average and a strike rate of 96.48 runs per 100 balls. His best total is 154 runs.
Veteran Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin praised the BCCI’s choice to select Sai Sudharsan in the team for the IND vs SA ODIs. On social media, even former Indian star Dinesh Karthik expressed his happiness.
With his excellent performances with the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, Sai became a household name. The 94 in the final against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 Final was one of the standout performances.
