India Cricket Team to simultaneously play India A & IND vs SA T20I matches

During their December tour of South Africa, the India Cricket Team will play India A and senior IND vs SA T20I matches at the same time.

India Cricket Team will play a series of games comprising two tests, three ODIs and three T20Is against the Proteas. The matches are scheduled from December 10 to 21. Coincidentally, the India ‘A’ team will also be visiting South Africa for a shadow tour during the IND vs SA T20Is. The team will be playing two four-day matches against South Africa A and one inter-squad three-day match.

The BCCI has organised ‘A’ team trips to nations where the senior squad is expected to visit for Test matches over the years. With the main focus being on the ODI World Cup in recent months, ‘A’ team trips have not taken place since the Bangladesh series last year.

However, five or six ‘A’ games in the first-class format are scheduled between December and January. After two four-day games in South Africa, India ‘A’ will host England for a few four-day series.

With the dates for the India A Shadow Tour out, they are coinciding with the IND vs SA T20 matches. During India’s last tour to South Africa in 2021-22, the BCCI had in fact sent an ‘A’ squad as well. India A will play their first four-day matches from December 11-14, followed by an Inter-squad three-day match. They will cap off the tournament with a 3rd four-day match from 26th December.

Abhimanyu Easwaran, Sai Sudharsan, and Yash Dhull are set to compete in the four-day games. Vidwath Kaverappa, Kuldeep Sen, Harshit Rana, and Umran Malik, among the youth pacers, might be in the mix alongside seasoned guards like Navdeep Saini.

Rohit Sharma and his team began their 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle against the mighty West Indies The forthcoming tour of South Africa will be their second series of the cycle, and their first home series will be in 2024.

In South Africa, India has never won a Test series. They had a quite a close opportunity after taking a 1-0 lead on their last trip. However they lost the series by a 2-1 deficit, prompting Virat Kohli to step down as red-ball captain as well.
