India have announced their squad for the upcoming Test series against South Africa. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer has made a comeback to the Test side. The right-handed batter played his last Test match in March this year against Australia. On the other hand, veteran batters, Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have failed to secure a spot for the upcoming IND vs SA Test series.
Meanwhile, spinner Kuldeep Yadav has once again been overlooked for the Test series. With Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in the squad and the conditions better suited for the pace bowling, the selectors have picked the squad accordingly. The pace attack will have the trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj come together for the first time since the one-off Test against England back in 2022.
To note, team India started the new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle on a winning note. Rohit Sharma and Co. went on to clean sweep the West Indies in their own backyard. However, the IND vs SA Test series will pose a different set of challenge for the visitors.
India’s squad for Tests: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan (wk), KL Rahul (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Mohd. Shami*, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Prasidh Krishna.
