With coach Rahul Dravid receiving a contract extension, there is a likelihood that Sharma will receive an extended opportunity, considering his commendable performance in the World Cup 2023 as both a captain and a batter.

Rohit Sharma’s outstanding performance in 2023 World Cup
Under Rohit’s captaincy, India achieved an impressive ten-match unbeaten streak and reached the final of the 2023 World Cup in India, although they faced defeat against Australia in the final match.
Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role with the bat, adopting an aggressive style and accumulating 597 runs in 11 matches, including one century and three half-centuries. Consequently, given these impressive stats, the BCCI may entrust Sharma with a more extended role in T20Is.
In the upcoming series against South Africa, Rohit Sharma will take on the captaincy role for the Test matches, while Suryakumar Yadav will lead the team in T20IIs and KL Rahul will be at the helm for the ODIs. Rohit has decided to skip the white-ball series.
Starting on December 10, the tour will include three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Test matches.
