Former Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj is celebrating her 41st birthday today. Mithali has been an ambassador in promoting women’s cricket in India. The former Indian batter debuted in June 1999 in an ODI match against Ireland. In January 2002, Mithali made her Test debut against England. She made her T20I debut against the England opponents in August 2006.

The former right-hand batter was the first women cricketer to hit 6000 runs in a one-day international. She is considered to be the greatest women cricketer in ODIs. In 232 ODIs, she has scored 7805 runs at an excellent average of 50.68. Mithali bagged 7 tons and 64 half-centuries in 50 overs.
She has featured in 89 T20Is and scored 2364 runs including 17 fifties.

In the leadership of Mithali’s captaincy, the Indian team achieved many feats including their first-ever Test series victory in England in 2006. They also featured in the finals of the ICC ODI World Cup in 2005 and 2017 in her captaincy.
