ENG vs WI: EARTHQUAKE hits Antigua ahead of 1st ODI, England fears ‘tsunami’

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude struck Antigua, prompting England to fear a ‘tsunami’ ahead of ENG vs WI ODIs.

An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Antigua ahead of England’s first ODI against West Indies. The visiting side’s players were seemingly more disturbed than the home side players, who happened to just not wake up when the quake struck.

The earthquake that struck 80km off the Caribbean coast occurred at 4:48 AM, jolting the England players from their slumber. One of the visiting side’s players even wondered if there would be a ‘tsunami’!

ENG vs WI: England fear ‘tsunami’ after earthquake

“I actually wasn’t woken up,” England’s Will Jacks said, as per Perth Now. “I woke up about 6am, saw the messages on the group and couldn’t really believe it.

“Some of the guys said their whole room was shaking and everything so it’s a bit weird.

“I’m quite a deep sleeper. I don’t wake up for anything. Harry Brook messaged me saying, ‘is there going to be a tsunami?’ But it’s all good now.”

Meanwhile, West Indies skipper Shai Hope brushed aside the incident, calling it nature’s action which one can’t control. Certainly, this isn’t the biggest quake England have felt this year. Their miserable performance in the recently-concluded World Cup 2023 is a testimony to a never-witnessed bigger disaster from a defending champion team.

ENG vs WI

England will take on West Indies in a 3-match ODI series and a 5-match T20I series, starting from December 3. While England had a very poor campaign at the World Cup 2023, West Indies were just watching it from sidelines, having been unable to make it to the marquee tournament.

This tour can be all about getting back on the right track in terms of the white-ball format of the game for both the sides.
