With 6-7 months remaining ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rahul Dravid faces a strong selection headache in terms of the spin department. While the batting setup is more or less set, the specialist spinner’s spot is up for grabs. It will be a strong selection contest between the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, and Yuzvendra Chahal.
India will travel to the World Cup bearing in mind that they need 2 spinners in the India Playing XI. Ravindra Jadeja is an automatic pick for Dravid which leaves only 1 spot up for grabs. In terms of the pace unit, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj will secure the spot while Mohammed Shami will try his chances. In his absence, Hardik Pandya will be the 3rd pacer in the team.
Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav has been a regular for the Men in Blue in recent times. He has been India’s go-to spinner forming a formidable partnership with Ravindra Jadeja. Kuldeep has been instrumental for India in picking wickets in quick succession to turn the tide of the game. A recent example will be the ODI World Cup.
Kuldeep has been exceptional in the middle overs of the game where he has restricted the opposition from rotating strikes and scoring quick runs. On the contrary, the duo of Kuldeep and Jadeja has bagged some crucial wickets within the middle overs to break the backbone of the opposition’s batting lineup.
Ravi Bishnoi
One of the massive highlights of the ongoing IND vs AUS T20I series is Ravi Bishnoi. Be it dew or not, Bishnoi has been brilliant with the ball. He has scalped crucial wickets in the beginning of his spell and has continued his fine form throughout the past 4 matches.
He has scalped 7 wickets from 4 matches and is the highest wicket-taker of the series. Bishnoi has already been selected in the 3-match T20I series against South Africa and will get more chances to prove his worth and up his stocks.
Yuzvendra Chahal
One of the biggest absences in the India Cricket Team in recent times is Yuzvenda Chahal. Now no longer in the ranks to compete for the T20s, Chahal’s last match came against West Indies before the World Cup. Chahal was snubbed from the Asia Cup, World Cup as well as the IND vs AUS T20I series.
But it is not over for the veteran spinner. He has gone a call back in the ODIs against South Africa and a great IPL 2024 can surely propel his case for the T20 World Cup squad.
