‘They give him a lollypop’ Harbhajan Singh criticizes selectors for snubbing Yuzvendra Chahal from T20Is

Harbhajan Singh said that Yuzvendra Chahal should have been kept in the IND vs SA T20I squad. However, he was given a place in ODIs.

Team India ace spinner Yuzvendra Chahal made a comeback to the Indian side ahead of the IND vs SA ODI series. However, Yuzvendra Chahal is not part for the T20I squad starting before the 50-over fixtures. Meanwhile, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh said that Chahal not being selected in the T20I squad is beyond his understanding.

Chahal played his last T20I match back in August 2023 against West Indies. Chahal has decent numbers in T20I format. He has played 80 T20 matches for India and has scalped a total of 96 wickets at an economy rate of 8.19. The 33-year-old also has a five-wicket haul to his name while representing India in T20Is.

Notably, Chahal is also not a part of the ongoing IND vs AUS T20Is. However, it looks like his absence is not being missed by team India with leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi being the leading wicket-taker in the ongoing series.

“There is no Yuzvendra Chahal in the T20 format. You kept him in ODIs but not T20Is. They just gave him a lollypop to suck on. We won’t take in the format where you do well but will take for other formats. It’s beyond my understanding,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel.

In his video, Harbhajan Singh also talked about the snub of Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara from the Test squad. The veteran snipper also opined that it is tough for Rahane and Pujara to make a comeback in the national squad.

“I think the road is tough for a comeback. They have served Indian cricket and are renowned cricketers. The board should have had a chat with them. They should have been informed why they are not picked and what is a possible path for them in their careers,” added Harbhajan.
