While Jasprit Bumrah, the white-ball format bowler, is considered the best in the business, Bumrah the red-ball pacer, is equally menacing. As the birthday boy turned 30 on December 6, it’s a good time to reminisce about his heroics for India in Test cricket. Since his Test debut in South Africa in 2018, the Indian speedster has gone on to smash one record after another.
In his debut Test match, Bumrah picked AB de Villiers as his maiden wicket and went on to pick four wickets. In fact, the 30-year-old is the only Indian pacer to take a five-wicket haul in South Africa, Australia, England, and West Indies on his first tour.
Bumrah also is the quickest Indian pacer to pick 100 wickets outside Asia, managing to record the magic figure in just 18 Test matches. Like he did against South Africa, the fast bowler also picked up five-fers in his debut Test series in Australia, England, and West Indies. The MI superstar picked up 18 wickets in the Carribean.

Jasprit Bumrah – a beast in Test cricket
In South Africa, Bumrah has taken 26 wickets in just six Tests. Down Under, the 30-year-old has taken 32 wickets in seven wickets with three five-wicket hauls. In Egland, Bumrah has taken 32 wickets in seven Tests. Bumrah will have more wickets to add in South Africa, as he is included for his third tour of Proteas.
India will play two Test matches, and will yet again be relying on their talismanic pacer to pick the bulk of the wickets. This will be Bumrah’s first Test series in 2023 after a long injury layoff. While he has already proved his mettle in white-ball formats after injury, Birthday boy Bumrah would be keen to continue his purple patch in Test cricket too.
