Dimitrios Diamantakos, Borja Herrera stunners nominated for ISL Goal of the Week

Matchweek 8 of the ISL 2023-24 season unfolded thrillingly, delivering captivating action and a barrage of goals that had fans at the edge of their seats. The week kicked off with a high-scoring spectacle, witnessing 12 goals in just the first two matches, and concluded with an impressive five-goal entertainer in the final game. Throughout the week, the matches not only featured a plethora of goals but also highlighted the individual brilliance of players like Borja Herrera, Dimitrios Diamantakos, Kwame Peprah, and Luka Majcen.

The opening match saw Kerala Blasters FC hosting Chennaiyin FC, and the intense encounter concluded in a gripping 3-3 draw, showcasing a brilliant tactical display by both head coaches. Adding to the excitement were a couple of outstanding goals. However, Kwame Peprah and Dimitrios Diamantakos’ strikes earned nominations for the ISL Goal of the Week.

A quick strike from Rahim Ali in the first minute, followed by a double from Jordan Murray, left Kerala Blasters in desperate need of goals. The Blasters managed to narrow the deficit before halftime, courtesy of Kwame Peprah’s inaugural ISL goal. A left-footed bullet unleashed from outside the box beat Debjit, sparking wild celebrations in Kochi.

Diamantakos Dimitrios vs Chennaiyin FC

Just 15 minutes into the second half, the Blasters leveled the score, thanks to a sensational long-range effort from Diamantakos. He skillfully received a pass from Danish Farooq, effortlessly strode forward, and unleashed a powerful shot to Debjit’s left, finding the top corner of the net. The spectacular goal not only brought the Blasters back on level terms but also added a touch of brilliance to the match.

Borja Herrera vs NorthEast United

In contention for the same accolade are East Bengal’s Borja Herrera and Round Glass Punjab’s Luka Majcen. Herrera’s stellar long-range goal played a pivotal role in East Bengal’s victory over NorthEast United FC on their home turf.

Luka Majcen vs Bengaluru FC

Luka Majcen stunned the entire Kanteerava as he dashed into Bengaluru’s box to give Punjab FC a two-goal lead. Despite the match ending in a 3-3 draw, Majcen’s goal turned the heads of the Indian football fans. Luka Majcen scored a spectacular goal from 30 yards out, beating Gurpreet Singh and chipping it ober the near post before reaching the goal line.

Dimitrios Chatziisaias’ looping header followed by  Juan Mera’s deft backheel layoff set up Majcen’s spectacular long-range shot as they led 3-1. Bengaluru FC displayed remarkable poise as they salvaged a draw from Punjab FC, depriving them of their maiden ISL victory.
