Unnati Hooda makes rapid rise in BWF rankings, Ashwini-Tanisha second-best in India

With the season coming to an end soon with a few tournaments, Unnati Hooda stands a chance to come closer to top-50 in the BWF rankings.

Sometimes BWF rankings are a fair indicator of a player’s form, and India’s Unnati Hooda, the 16-year-old sensation is certainly displaying a lot of it. Since October, Unnati has won the Abu Dhabi Masters, Chhattishgarh India International, and finished second at Infosys India International. Last week, at the Syed Modi International, she beat her compatriot Aakarshi Kashyap, before falling to Nozomi Okuhara.

But all this has ensured a move to WR-71 in the latest BWF rankings, a jump of eight places. On the other hand, PV Sindhu remains the highest-placed Indian at WR-12. It was a good week for the team of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Crasto, who made it to the final of the Syed Modi International. They jumped WR-28, their best ranking together, and are behind Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand at WR-19.

In the men’s doubles, there wasn’t any significant movement as Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty remained at WR-2. Similar was the case with men’s singles, where HS Prannoy stayed at WR-8. Lakshya Sen was also static at WR-17.
