Prithvi Shaw has begun his preparations for a potential return to IPL 2024 after a three-month long injury layoff. The Mumbaikar suffered a knee injury that forced him to abandon his stint at Northamptonshire in England. However, he is still on the recovery trail. With no cricket for three months, Prithvi Shaw finally has begun light batting sessions. However, the Delhi Capitals opener still has a long road ahead as he continues to struggle with fitness.
After a three-month break from cricket due to the knee injury, Prithvi Shaw posted a video on social media platforms as he celebrates return to the sport. He had light batting sessions under his coach’s observation. Shaw played some shots to get the hang back.
England stint
While many including Prithvi Shaw was expecting a return to India Cricket Team following great run of form last season, it did not happen. Selectors did not recall him. With no opportunity in India, Shaw found a spot in Northamptonshire Cricket Club to play in Royal London Cup.
And it did not take him long to be successful in England. He smashed 244 against Somerset in a one-day match and followed it up with a century before the knee injury rule him out for three months.
With Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy already over and Vijay Hazare Trophy almost done, Prithvi Shaw only has Ranji Trophy in January to make a potential return.
However, as he continues to work on fitness after return to injury, IPL 2024 in March seems to be the only ideal platform.
IPL 2024 make or break
And as he slowly regains fitness, his focus will be on IPL 2024. And as former India captain Anil Kumble has put it, IPL 2024 could be make-or-break for Shaw.
Despite poor returns last season, Delhi Capitals have shown their faith in the youngster by retaining him. Now, it is his turn to repay that.
“Prithvi Shaw has to look at his fitness. I think that’s something that is constantly spoken about. It’s not about his cricketing skills. Yes, there might be some chinks in his armour like all batters do. We’ve seen that he’s someone who can take the game away in the T20 format. He’s still young but he needs to work on his fitness. If Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly, David Warner can’t get him to work on his fitness then it’s a challenge,” Anil Kumble said on JioCinema.
