IPL 2024 Trade Window: Rules, trades made, injuries & season start time

The IPL 2024 auction will take place on December 19 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.

The IPL 2024 auction is two weeks away, and franchises are currently making strategic moves through the IPL Trade Window to strengthen their squads. During this window, franchises have the option to swap players or engage in all-cash trades to improve their squad or increase their purses ahead of the auction. So, let’s get to know all about the IPL 2024 Trade Window:

IPL 2024 trade window deadline

The deadline for teams to finalise their retention lists and conclude player trades is set for December 12, a week before the auction happens at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai.

IPL 2024 trade window rules

  • Player Transactions: Franchises can choose between player swaps or all-cash deals to strengthen their squads.
  • Approval Process: The IPL governing council has the authority to grant final approval for all trades.
  • Preference Rights: If multiple franchises express interest in a player, the selling franchise has the right to choose the player’s destination.
  • Player Consent: Prior consent from the player is mandatory before any trading or transferring process.
  • Exclusions: ‘Icon’ players are exempt from the trading process.

Players traded so far

  • Romario Shepherd (Rs 50 lakh) has been traded from the Lucknow Super Giants to the Mumbai Indians.
  • Devdutt Padikkal (Rs 7.5 crore) has been traded from the Rajasthan Royals to the Lucknow Super Giants.
  • Avesh Khan (Rs 10 crore) has been traded from the Lucknow Super Giants to the Rajasthan Royals.
  • Shahbaz Ahmed (Rs 2.4 crore) was traded to Sunrisers Hyderabad from Royal Challengers Bangalore.
  • Mayank Dagar (Rs 1.8 crore) was traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore from Sunrisers Hyderabad.
  • Hardik Pandya (Rs. 15 crore) was traded to the Mumbai Indians from the Gujarat Titans.
  • Cameron Green (Rs. 17.5 crore) was traded to the Royal Challengers Bangalore from the Mumbai Indians.

High-billed players like Wanindu Hasaranga, Ben Stokes, and Jofra Archer are currently injured. Other players who have not been released by their franchises, like Anrich Nortje, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant, and Rashid Khan, are all currently recovering from injuries.
