Wasim Jaffer’s niece gets picked by Mumbai Indians in WPL 2024 Auction

Fatima Jaffer was picked up by Mumbai Indians at a base price of Rs 10 lakh.

When Fatima Jaffer’s name went up at the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 auction table, an Indian cricket legend must have been glued to the tv screen waiting for Jaffer’s outcome in the auction. Fatima Jaffer was picked up by Mumbai Indians for a base price of Rs 10 lakh and it must have made former Indian opener Wasim Jaffer proud as she is India’s domestic legend’s niece.

Fatima comes from a proper cricketing family with his uncle Wasim Jaffer playing 31 Tests for India. However, that’s not all. Her brother Armaan Jaffer was once regarded as a child prodigy. He made the record for highest individual score for Indian school cricket at 13 years of age in 2010. Fatima took to cricket after watching her brother play. She was picked for the Mumbai under-19 team for the West Zone in 2015 at an age of 13 years.

Coached by her father Kalim, Fatima is considered one of the quickest bowlers in her age group. Not just that, the right-arm seamer can also bowl decent left-arm spin. And of course, coming from the house known for their batter, she is effective on that front too.

Insidesport

Coming from such an affluent cricketing family, it was hard for her not to pursue the sport. When her name popped up in the auction, Mumbai Indians wasted no time and raised the paddle to start the bidding. However, no other WPL team rivalled Nita Ambani’s side for the signature of Jaffer, leading to Mumbai picking up the all-rounder at the base price.
