Ekta Bisht caught all eyes after joining RCB for 60 lakhs. Earlier, Georgia Wareham became the first player to join RCB for a base price of 40 L. Kate Cross became the second player to join the Challengers for a base price of 30 lakhs. After a disappointing debut campaign in the Women’s Premier League, Royal Challengers Bangalore Women are gearing up for strategic moves in the WPL 2024 auction.
Players Bought – Georgia Wareham (40 L), Kate Cross (30 L), Ekta Bisht (60 L), Shubha Satheesh (10 L), S Meghana (30 L), Simran Bahadur (30 L), Sophie Molineux (30 L)
The Bengaluru-based franchise faced a challenging inaugural season, winning just two matches under the leadership of Smriti Mandhana. The team suffered six defeats in eight matches, including a streak of five consecutive losses.
In a bid to revamp their squad, the Royal Challengers released seven players, including notable names such as Megan Schutt, Dane Van Niekerk, and Erin Burns. With 11 players retained from the previous season, RCB made some crucial buys. In the previous auction, Smriti Mandhana emerged as the most expensive pick for RCB, securing a deal worth Rs 3.4 crore.
Despite the challenges, RCB boast a roster of superstar players, including Ellyse Perry, Heather Knight, Shreyanka Patil, and Smriti Mandhana. While the team enters the tournament as one of the favorites, the key for success in WPL 2024 lies in the star players delivering performances that match their potential, a factor that eluded them in the previous season.
