Who is Vrinda Dinesh? Uncapped Indian goes for big bucks after intense bidding, UP Warriorz seal deal from 10 lakhs to 1.3 crores

The Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) Auction saw a mega shocker. Indian Eve youngster Vrinda Dinesh who had a base price of 10 lakhs was sold to UP Warriorz for a whooping price of 1.3 crores. Her auction saw intense bidding from 3 sides as the Warriorz laughed the last laugh after getting their prized player.

Among the uncapped players, the 22-year-old youngster stole the show after racking up big bucks. Set with a base price of 10 lakhs, she was sold for an eye-catching price of 1.3 crores. It was a three-way bidding way between Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Gujarat Giants but UP Warriorz came in late and sealed the deal.

I am wondering where they will slot Vrinda Dinesh in. Yes, it’s nice to get a youngster in but they already have Shweta Sehrawat and Parshavi Chopra. When you get someone like Vrinda Dinesh, you want some freshness in the squad and you can get her to open the innings with Alyssa Healy but that also puts pressure on Kiran Navgire. So, I am concerned about Shweta Sehrawat and Vrinda Dinesh – both U-23 players now. It’s a good buy but Rs 1.3 crore is big money,” said Anjum Chopra, WPL Expert on JioCinema.

Who is Vrinda Dinesh?

The young batter from Karnataka has been performing at a top level for the past couple of seasons. The hard-hitting ability of the young Indian Eve forced her to play for India A despite being just 22 years of age.

Earlier, this year she was a part of India’s U-23 ACC Emerging Teams Cup in Hong Kong. Despite not being picked initially in the squad, she showcased her style and mark with exceptional performances in the warmup games, thereby prompting her selection in the team. She was installed into the squad when S Yashasri got injured.

She played in the final game where she slammed 36 runs from just 29 balls. A vital player for Karnataka, she was a crucial player in the Senior Women’s one-day competition. She registered 477 runs from just 11 innings becoming the third-highest run-getter in the process.
