Annabel Sutherland joins Delhi Capitals for a whopping Price of 2 Crores. She is currently the highest-priced player to be sold in the Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) Auction. After a fierce bidding between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, it was the Capitals who finally won the bidding war.
“DC were pretty much done with the auction after spending Rs 2 crore on Sutherland. The plans of both Mumbai Indians and Capitals were pretty clear. They were focusing on strengthening their teams. Overall, it’s a great pick for Delhi Capitals. They are trusting their younger Indian spinners because I immediately feel that Jess Jonassen could make way for Annabel Sutherland,” said Abhinav Mukund, WPL Expert on JioCinema.
It is no surprise that Delhi Capitals went all guns blazing for Sutherland. The Capitals were in the desperate need of a star batter and they have got their prized possession after giving away 2 crores.
Despite being just 22 years old she is already an established star. In Women’s Big Bash League 08 – she went on to slam 304 runs and 21 wickets, all being the highest for her club, Melbourne Titans.
Back last year, Annabel Sutherland was sold to Gujarat Giants for a sum of 70 lakhs. But she was released from the Gujarat outfits and made herself available for the auction.
“The BCCI did wonderful things for women’s cricket in bringing the WPL to life. First year was a great success and teams did pretty well given they had a very short lead into the tournament. They will be even better organised this season. To achieve its potential it will be great to see matches scheduled around the country. Fans will love it… and it will inspire more girls to play and love cricket!,” James Sutherland, the father of Annabel, told Cricbuzz.
