Rinku Singh gears up for South Africa challenge as Rahul Dravid advice rings loud

Ahead of the three-match T20I series against the Proteas, Rinku Singh revealed the advice he received from head coach Rahul Dravid.

Team India is reading itself for a challenging series against South Africa. The middle-order batter Rinku Singh is also preparing up to face the unique conditions of South African pitches. Rinku, who played a crucial role in India’s recent T20I series victory against Australia, shared his insights after the team’s first practice session.

The Uttar Pradesh hard-hitter acknowledged the extra bounce and increased pace on South African wickets compared to the familiar Indian pitches. Recognizing the adjustment required, Rinku Singh expressed his commitment to practicing against pace bowling to acclimatize to the conditions.

Ahead of the three-match T20I series against the Proteas, Rinku Singh revealed the advice he received from head coach Rahul Dravid.

Rahul Dravid encouraged Singh to maintain his natural playing style and assured him a spot in the batting order at either No. 5 or No. 6.

Reflecting on the valuable interaction with Dravid, Rinku Singh shared, “He told me to continue playing the way I do and continue believing in myself, to keep playing at No. 5 or 6. It is tough to play in that position, but keep pushing yourself and believe in yourself.”

Rinku Singh, who has been holding pivotal positions in the batting order since 2013 for Uttar Pradesh, expressed confidence in playing a similar role for the national team. His experience in building partnerships in challenging situations has prepared him well for the demands of the No. 5 or No. 6 positions.

Acknowledging the importance of remaining calm and composed in the midst of challenging scenarios, Singh emphasized the need to build partnerships when the team faces adversity. His mental resilience and ability to remain unfazed under pressure have been honed through years of experience.

Off the field, Rinku Singh highlighted the camaraderie within the team, particularly mentioning a close-knit group of players, including Ravi Bishnoi, Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan, and Jitesh Sharma. Enjoying each other’s company, Singh believes that a positive team spirit is integral to success in cricket.

As the series against South Africa looms, Rinku Singh also emphasized the importance of fitness in cricket. Understanding the physical demands of the sport, he stressed the need to stay fit to perform at the highest level.
