ECB relaxes life ban on Lou Vincent, can play domestic cricket at 45

ECB had banned former Kiwi cricketer Lou Vincent for ‘cheating’ during his time in Sussex in 2008, and in 2011 during Champions League.

Former New Zealand opening batsman Lou Vincent can finally play domestic cricket, or any form of cricket below that after the ECB relaxed the life ban imposed on him for corruption in 2014. The move has come after the ECB’s Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) said in a statement, that Vincent had shown full cooperation and admitted to his fault.

Gerard Elias, representing the CDC, was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo., “In particular, this decision was taken in the light of Mr. Vincent’s conduct following his sanction.”

“Namely: full and frank admissions and the fullest disclosures; immediate and total cooperation with cricket and civil authorities in various parts of the world; and, participation in anti-corruption education programmes for NZC and the ECB. I am satisfied that these factors justify an amelioration of the original sanction at this time.”

What Had Happened

Vincent was barred from playing any level of cricket, entering a cricket ground, or coaching after he had admitted to ‘cheating’ in an open letter. Thereafter, he was handed 11 life bans, about events during his time at Sussex in 2008, and offences committed during the 2011 Champions League Twenty20.

After the relaxation, Vincent said that he was “very fortunate” to be able to return to cricket. “I made a terrible mistake many years ago, which I’ll deeply regret for the rest of my life, and I remain very sorry for the harm I caused. Being able to return to the cricket environment means the world to me and I feel very fortunate to again have that opportunity,” Vincent said in a NZC statement.
