Star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who has been out of the cricketing action for a year now, is gearing up for his return with the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The 26-year-old is all set to represent Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2024.
However, according to RevSportz, the DC franchise do not want put too much strain on Pant, who would be returning for the first time since his terrible car accident in December 2022, and will use the wicketkeeper batter as an impact player.
What is impact player rule?
According to the impact player rule, which was introduced in IPL 2023, any franchise during the course of the match, can substitute a member of the playing XI in the middle of the game to suit the conditions of the match in their favour.
Using Rishabh Pant as an impact player would mean that the wicket-keeper batter would not need to come out to field or keep in the game. The batter could just come to bat during Delhi Capitals’ innings to make an impact with the bat.
Earlier, the Director of Cricket of DC, Sourav Ganguly had confirmed that Pant will take part in the IPL 2024.
“He’s (Pant) good now. He will play in the IPL next season,” Ganguly told reporters in November.
