The upcoming T20 World Cup will have as many as 20 teams. From heavyweights India to underdogs Uganda, the upcoming T20 World Cup is certain to throw up new matchups and historic moments. Qualifying as hosts alongside the West Indies, the tournament will be a ground-breaking event for the USA, and the first global tournament appearance outside of a Champions Trophy in 2005.
T20 World Cup to be played in June
With 20 teams participating in the upcoming T20 World Cup, the tournament will work in two phases before the knockouts, though in a different framework from the First Round/Super 12 format at the 2021 and 2022 World Cup editions.
To note, the T20 WC will be played from June 4 to 30 in the West Indies and USA. 20 teams will compete in the tournament with Uganda grabbing the final qualification berth for the main stage.

Three African teams qualify for WC
To note, three African countries will feature in the 2024 T20 WC including South Africa, Namibia and Uganda. This will be Uganda’s first-ever appearance in an ICC World Cup event. Uganda will become only the fifth African nation to feature in a ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. On the other hand, Zimbabwe failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup. Earlier, they also failed to qualify for the 50-over World Cup played in India.
