Uganda qualify for ICC T20 World Cup 2024, deserves spot with staggering record

Uganda cricket team beat Zimbabwe and Kenya in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 qualifiers recently, and have booked their berth now.

Uganda Cricket team has entered the history books, as they qualified for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup, a feat they’ve achieved for the first time. Playing in the ICC T20 World Cup Africa Region Qualifier 2023, Uganda did exceptionally well in beating teams like Zimbabwe and Kenya too. They are second on the points table, behind Namibia, who have also qualified for next year’s World T20. The East African nation deserves all the accolades, to displace traditional African powerhouses like Zimbabwe and Kenya.

But this is certainly not a flash-in-the-pan success for them. In fact, they boast of a terrific T20I record till now, perhaps the best in the region (East Africa). After being granted the full T20I status by ICC in 2019, Uganda has played 81 matches and won 61 of those, losing only 17. In that, they have won the only match played against Zimbabwe, and beaten Botswana in all their meetings. They have a 100% win record against Nigeria and Rwanda as well. Only Namibia is their Achilles heel, and have lost to them on seven occasions in eight meetings.
