KickStart FC announce partnership with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham will assist KickStart FC develop grassroot talent, empower women’s football and help with improving the general resources available to the club

In another huge news for Indian football, Kickstart FC, a football club based in Karnataka, announced a collaboration project with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday. The Premier League club, who were sitting at the top of the table until a few days ago, will assist the Indian club develop grassroot talent, empower women’s football and help with improving the general resources available to the club.

Kickstart FC was founded in 2016 with the aim of developing grassroot level football in Karnataka. Their Men’s team who played in the BDFA Super division, has secured a place in the newly formed I-League 3. Their Women’s team have enjoyed thumping success too, winning the Karnataka Women’s League multiple times. They currently play in the India Women’s League, the top division of women’s professional football league in India.

The club has now secured a partnership with one of the biggest clubs in the world. Spurs will help KickStart FC take their goal of developing fresh talent one step further. Kickstart FC’s MOU with Spurs will see the PL club send their academy coaches to hone the skills of Kickstart FC’s footballers. Spurs will also help out with empowering Kickstart FC’s Women’s team. Moreover, Kickstart FC’s players will get a chance to travel to North London to practice with Tottenham Hotspurs’ youth teams and play some friendlies.

Speaking about the collaboration, Kickstart FC chairman Shekar Rajan told Insidesport, “Tottenham is a powerhouse of world football. There are a top four club in EPL and they are a $4 billion company. They have a certain philosophy of doing grassroot level development, and that value system of grassroot level development sits very well with Kickstart’s style of operation and ethos. We have a lot of things in common and of course that’s what clicked the whole thing.”

Shekar also let Insidesport in on the kind of activities that will take place after this collaboration. “Some of our players will get an opportunity to visit Tottenham to practice with their youth teams and play some matches. Tottenham will contribute a lot in terms of the tactical and technical capability,” Shekar said.

Shekar also opened up about their vision for KickStart FC and how Tottenham will help to achieve them. “We want to have 100 grounds in India, and 20 residential academies. We already had this vision of getting our kids to play at the highest level in the world, but with the
Tottenham partnership, that dream becomes closer, quicker and faster
,” Shekar signed off.
