Shardul Thakur is all set to be a part of the Mumbai cricket team for two matches in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. The all-rounder, who was a part of the Indian setup in the recently concluded ODI World Cup, has been rested along with a number of seniors for the T20I series against Australia.
However, TOI on Tuesday revealed that the all-rounder will take part in the One Day domestic competition. According to TOI’s report, Shardul will play against Saurashtra in Alur on December 1 and against Tripura in Bengaluru on December 3. Shardul will likely be a part of the Indian contingent touring South Africa, either as part of the senior team or the India A team. Hence, he is likely to leave the Mumbai team in the middle of the tournament, the report quoted a close source as saying.
Shardul had an average World Cup campaign, taking two wickets in three games. To go with World Cup’s disappointment, his Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders released him. He is likely to be available for the IPL auction scheduled on December 19.

Meanwhile, his state team Mumbai has got off to an electric start in the Vijay Hazare 2024, winning their first three matches. The Mumbaikars sit at the top of Group A with six points from three matches. Shardul Thakur’s addition to the already strong squad of Mumbai will hand a huge advantage to the team.
Shardul will also be looking to spend some time in the field after not getting as much of a run-in in the World Cup as he would have liked. Some good performances in the domestic stage can do a world of good for his confidence.
