Pakistan cricketer Sohaib Maqsood has exposed the sad reality of living in Pakistan. Maqsood, who has been a part of Pakistan’s World Cup 2015 squad and has represented his country in 29 ODIs and 26 T20Is, recently became a victim of systematic corruption in the Pakistani police system. The cricketer narrated his ordeal with ‘corrupt’ policemen in the Sindh region.

Maqsood represents Punjab in domestic cricket and was on his way to Multan to play the next fixture of the National T20 Cup. However, the tall batter was stopped multiple times by corrupt policemen in Sindh.

The batter claimed he paid PKR 8,000 in bribe money, despite telling the officers that he was a professional cricketer. This sad incident exposed the harsh reality of the common man in Pakistan and what they have to go through on a day-to-day basis.

Actions have consequences, and the act of exposing corruption by Maqsood has led to four policemen being suspended. His claims on X (formerly Twitter) sent shockwaves to the higher officials of the Sindh region and resulted in corrupt officers getting penalised.

“Strict action must be taken against personnel involved in the incident,” Sindh Inspector General Raffat Raja said in a statement.

While talking with Dawn.com, Sindh’s Deputy Inspector General of Police, Pervaiz Chandio, said, “These officers were on patrol along a Sakrand road when the incident took place. They have confessed to charging cricketer Sohaib Maqsood Rs 3,000 as a fine for using a fancy number plate and beam lights,” he said.
