Shaheen Afridi ready to snub T20 leagues after taking over as Pakistan T20I captain

Pakistan’s new T20 skipper, Shaheen Afridi has set a perfect example by prioritizing playing international cricket over ILT20 League

Prefering T20 Leagues over playing national cricket is a common trend now among cricketers, but not for Pakistan’s new T20 skipper Shaheen Afridi. The left-arm pacer has snubbed the upcoming International T20 League (ILT20) and is now setting sights on winning the T20 World Cup 2024 set to begin in June next year. With only seven months left for the showpiece event, Afridi wants to be fresh for the event.

Pakistan skipper’s decision of not to play T20 league and prioritize international cricket is lauded by former Pakistan players. Rashid Latif & Dr. Nauman Niaz said that Shaheen has set a perfect benchmark for future cricketers.

Former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has followedd the same suit and refused to sign a lucrative contract for the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL). The Men in Green will be traveling Down Under to play three Test matches, and after the conclusion of series, the BBL will commence.

Pakistan were the runners-up of the T20 World Cup 2022. Shaheen had a terrific tournament in the back half of the tournament, picking nine wickets. Also, the T20 is the format the left-arm pacer loves to bowl. He can be deadly in the powerplay, and also be economical during the death overs. Overall, in 52 T20I matches, the Pakistan T20 skipper has taken 64 wickets at an average of 22.64.
