Iceland cricket mocks Pakistan amidst speculation over Champions Trophy venue change

Iceland Cricket yet again were at their savage best as they mocked PCB by offering to host Champions Trophy 2025.

Iceland Cricket Association have yet again mocked the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over hosting the Champions Trophy 2025 event. The showpiece event will resume after seven years. Pakistan were the winner of the CT 2017, and that is why they were given given hosting rights. However, since India have made their intentions very clear about not traveling to Pakistan, the question remains whether the CT 2025 will be played in a hybrid model just like this year’s Asia Cup.

Iceland though have offered to host the event completely. In a savage Tweet, Iceland wrote to ICC Chairman Greg Barclay and sarcastically offered to host the event, “We are not people who hold back. We have today issued our bid to host the Champions Trophy of 2025, and we look forward to hearing what Greg Barclay of @ICC  has to say about it.”

Champions Trophy to be moved out of Pakistan?

The CT 2025 will be played in February-March, with eight teams participating in it. The top eight teams from the World Cup 2023 points table have qualified for the event. However, the question remains if Pakistan will host the event considering India’s stance of not playing matches in the neighboring country due to political tensions.

If the CT 2025 will indeed be played in a hybrid model, then ICC has to find an alternative venue for India. Asia Cup 2023 was played in Sri Lanka. Only four matches were played in Pakistan. India played all its matches in Lanka.
