Some unlikely meetings took place on the sidelines of Formula 1 Abu Dhabi GP. Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer was seen posing with former France footballer and Manchester United legend Patrice Evra ahead of the F1 event. Iyer sprung an even better surprise on Sunday, gifting F1 world champion driver Max Verstappen an Indian ODI jersey.
Shreyas Iyer, who recently played a key role in India’s ODI World Cup campaign as a middle order batter, is on a break. Before he rejoins the India squad for the last two T20Is against Australia, he took some time out to attend the Formula 1 season finale in Abu Dhabi. He will be returning to action as the vice-captain for India in the last two T20Is against Aussies.
On Monday, on the sidelines of Abu Dhabi GP, Iyer bumped into Patrice Evra. The former Manchester United left-back, who was a core team member of Alex Ferguson’s Man United, is a known F1 lover and has been seen enjoying the sport in tracks across the world.

Evra was present in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last year too. He watched Max Verstappen claim his 15th victory of the season and wrapping the 2022 Driver’s Championship with the victory.
Shreyas Iyer’s love for football
Shreyas Iyer on the other hand is a known football fanatic who supports Premier League club Chelsea. He had previously claimed that he would want to watch a Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester United with Chelsea winning. “I love Chelsea. I hope to see a game live. Hopefully, it will be a Champions League final against Manchester United with Chelsea winning,” he had said.
It is unclear whether Evra knew who Shreyas Iyer was. But that didn’t stop the footballing legend from posing with Iyer with a wide smile.
Max Verstappen, the world No. 1 driver was in for a surprise before the Abu Dhabi GP. Shreyas Iyer gifted the ace driver an Indian jersey. Max Verstappen looked seemingly happy with the gift, posing happily with Iyer and the jersey.
