On Tuesday, Mumbai City FC will play Nassaji Mazandaran as they look for their maiden win in the tournament. However, the Islanders face a mammoth task. According to TOI journalist Marcus Mergulhao, international players from Mumbai City FC have travelled to Iran. According to reports, the reason is that the governments of Australia, Spain, the Netherlands, Argentina, and Scotland have issued advisories. These recommendations expressly advise their nationals not to go to Iran due to security concerns.

Mumbai City FC were drawn in Group D of the competition alongside Nassaji Mazandaran, Al-Hilal and Navbahor The Indian team is at the bottom of the rankings, having lost all four games.

Mumbai City FC began their AFC Champions League 2023 campaign at home with a 2-0 loss to Nassaji Mazandaran. They lost their next two away games against Navbahor and Al-Hilal by 3-0 and 6-0 scores, respectively. Earlier this month, the Islanders lost 2-0 against Al-Hilal at the DY Patil Stadium.

They will face Nassaji Mazandaran in a dead rubber match in Iran on Tuesday, November 28. On Monday, December 4, they will play Navbahor at the Balewadi Stadium in their last group-stage match.

The choice to play without international players in such an important match presents the Islanders with a difficult problem. However on a positive note allows Indian talent to shine on the world scene while leaving their mark in the AFC Champions League.
