The ODI World Cup is done and dusted as the teams now begin preparations for the T20 World Cup. With just 6-7 months remaining ahead of the big tournaments, the cricket pundits have had their unilateral say about the inclusion of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the India squad for World Cup.

Both the senior batters have not been a part of the T20 setup following the conclusion of the 2022 T20 World Cup. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya was appointed as the skipper for the shortest format and has been given a relatively young squad to build their core strength.

But now with time running out, the Men in Blue needs experience and leadership which can only be obtained from senior players. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been incredible in the ODI World Cup and therefore deemed the prime picks in the squad. Former cricketers and legends of the game Waseem Akram and Gautam Gambhir have made it clear that the duo should play in the T20 World Cup with Rohit leading the Men in Blue.

“The T20 World Cup is happening within six months from now. I will pick both of them (Rohit & Virat). They will be the main players for India right now, both Virat and skipper Rohit. You need a bit of experience in T20. Saarey young bachchey nahi rakh sakte aap (Can’t keep only the youngsters),” Pakistan bowling legend Washim Akram told Sportskeeda.

“They both need to get picked. They both should be picked. And more importantly, I want to see Rohit Sharma captaining in the T20 World Cup. Yes, Hardik Pandya has captained the T20 side, but I still want Rohit Sharma captaining in the T20 World Cup,” said Gautam Gambhir.

“Don’t pick Rohit Sharma just as a batter. Rohit Sharma is a phenomenal leader and he showed it with his batting in the ODI World Cup. So, if you pick Rohit as you should, then he should be the captain and not just a batter. And Virat automatically picks himself,” Gambhir concluded.

While there were serious doubts about the T20 future of Rohit and Kohli even a few months back, exceptional performances in the ODI World Cup have showcased to the entire world that the duo are at the top of their game and will to go full throttle in the shortest format of the game.
