While Bazball is officially part of Collins’s dictionary, it is still not enough to impress Nathan Lyon, who feels Bazball is not an ideal style of play. England failed to retain the Ashes after drawing the 5-match Test series 2-2 at home earlier in 2023.
Lyon, who played a huge role in Australia winning the first two Test matches, feels Bazball is not the best way of playing cricket.
“To me, it’s a load of s*** if you ask me. It’s a brand of cricket that the English want to keep going, now it’s in the dictionary, which is pretty remarkable,” Lyon said during an appearance on the Australian TV Show, The Front Bar.
For the unversed, the meaning of Bazball, according to Collins Dictionary is It’s defined as “a style of test cricket in which the batting side attempts to gain the initiative by playing in a highly aggressive manner”. Bazball came into the limelight ever since Brandon McCullum took coaching of the England Test team. The former New Zealand captain took Test cricket by storm due to his aggressive style of play.

McCullum also implemented the same in his coaching style as he gave England players a free hand to express themselves. Under McCullum, England are yet to lose a Test series, managing to beat South Africa, Pakistan (away), and New Zealand (Home and away). England will next take on India in a five-match Test series.
