It is rare nowadays to see teams walking off over something to which they have not agreed. Previously, we have seen a few instances where team walked off due to controversial umpiring. Something similar happened during Indonesia vs Cambodia T20I match wherein, the visitors refused to play the T20I game after 11.3 overs.

While the exact reason is still unknown, it is reported that the Cambodian players were unhappy with the catch taken by Indonesia player Dharma Kesuma to dismiss Butt. Cambodian players did not like the decision and decided to just walk off. Under bizarre circumstances, Indonesia where declared as a winners. They won the series 4-2, with the seventh T20I being called off.

Indonesia had won the first three matches before Cambodia made a stunning comeback to win the fourth and fifth T20Is. The series was poised for an epic finish, but Cambodian players thought otherwise, and chose to walk off rather than completing the match.

This is the first time we have seen a team walking off due to a controversial catch call. Previously, we have seen teams like India and Sri Lanka walking off due to umpires’ wrong LBW decision or umpires being unfair to players over action.

A similar instance was witnessed in IPL 2022 when Delhi Capitals almost decided to walk-off in the game against Rajasthan Royals. DC skipper Rishabh Pant was miffed that a waist-high full toss was not called a no-ball. Pant, who was fuming with anger asked his players Kuldeep Yadav and Rovman Powell to walk off. DC assistant coach Praveen Amre was sent to the ground to speak to the match officials.

However, after coaching staff’s intervention, Pant was calmed down and the match was eventually completed.
