The last Friday of the Formula 1 season was an intriguing one. In FP1, most drivers didn’t participate because of the rookie tests. Then, FP2 was shorted by two lengthy red flags, caused by Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg. At the end of it all, Charles Leclerc climbed to the top of the timing sheets. Lando Norris and Max Verstappen followed him closely. Can the Abu Dhabi GP Qualifying Live up to these same expectations?

FP1

FP1 featured 10 rookies. Alpha Tauri was the only team to not have a rookie, while Red Bull had 2 rookies in their cars. Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Lando Norris all missed out on this session. But that didn’t hamper them in FP2.

FP2

Carlos Sainz had a scratchy FP1. In conditions similar to the Abu Dhabi GP Qualifying, he crashed his car and bowed out of FP2. This caused a lengthy red flag. Almost immediately after the session resumed, Nico Hulkenberg lost his car as well, bringing out another red flag.

Therefore, a total of 10 drivers on the grid only got about 20 minutes of practice time before the Abu Dhabi GP Qualifying. Will it adversely affect them? Find that out and more as we cover the Abu Dhabi GP Qualifying Live.
