Former Barcelona and Brazil star Dani Alves is set to face nine years in jail. Alves is scheduled to stand trial on charges of assaulting a lady in a Barcelona nightclub on December 30. In August, an investigating judge convicted him of the assault. This month, the court ruled that there was sufficient evidence to begin a trial.
According to MARCA, the Public Ministry also demands 150,000 euros in compensation for the victim, as well as a decade of probation. The Barcelona Court has previously validated the former FC Barcelona footballer’s incarceration on two occasions.
This easclated when Alves tried to revise his account of events on many times. Following the Prosecutor’s Office’s indictment, it is up to the private prosecution and subsequently the Brazilian defence.
Dani Alves has the option of signing a compliance agreement prior to the commencement of the trial. He also has the option of admitting guilty and attempting to make an arrangement to decrease his prison term drastically.
The judge granted the Prosecutor’s Office’s request and the complainant’s private complaint, and sentenced the player to prison. However, Alves denies all wrongdoing, stating it was mutual, despite changing his story four times.
In January 2023, the investigating judge of Barcelona’s investigating court number 15 consented to the Alves’ entrance to jail without bail. Alves has spent the last 10 months in prison after the judge ruled him a flight risk. The 40-year-old was playing for Pumas in Mexico at the time, but the club has since fired him.
Alves won 42 trophies in his career, including three Champions Leagues with Barcelona and two Copa America crowns with Brazil. He has been a full international for Brazil since 2006 and is widely regarded as one of the finest full-backs of all time.
Alves is the country’s second most-capped player of all time, having appeared in 126 games and scoring eight goals. The right defender famously played for Barcelona from 2008 to 2016, and he will make a temporary comeback to the LaLiga squad for the 2021-22 season.
