It has been confirmed by RAC1 that Barcelona will be able to accommodate the signing of Athletico Paranaense’ Roque by releasing Gavi’s salary. The initial agreement between the two parties was for Roque to arrive in Barcelona in the summer of 2024.
Deco on Vitor Roque
Barcelona’s Director of Sport Deco had revealed a month ago Barcelona’s plan to move the youngster’s arrival in January. In an interview with Spain’s El Mundo Deportivo newspaper, he had said, “We don’t know yet if we can bring him or not, but if we can bring him in January, it would be to join the team.”
Deco also talked about the Roque’s qualities, revealing that the youngster has a tough mentality. “As well as technical quality, he has to have a lot of personality. He is a brave player, who doesn’t feel pressure and that is good, because Barcelona is a tough club to play for,” Deco had said.

But can Barcelona afford the luxury?
Having Vitor Roque available for selection can be a double-edged sword for Xavi. With the Financial Fair Play constraints and the injury to an important midfielder such as Gavi, would Barcelona be able to afford the luxury of signing a forward instead of a midfielder using Gavi’s wages? The decision lies with Xavi and the Barcelona board as Barca fans wait to find out the outcome with bated breath.
